Brothas

This powerful man
This powerful man
This powerful man’s hand
Can wrestle with corporate America’s ugly fat hand
Its ugly fat hand, trying to devour my beautiful black man
You gotta stay ready, keep hope alive,
Which is hard cuz everyday you’re being deprived
Of the privileges and perks on the other side
But ain’t no mountain high, and the limit is beyond the sky
Are you being held accountable for another man’s lies?
Why are you just sitting at home just gettin by?
Why you got baby momma drama up the wazoo?
Why won’t you let others take care of you?
O brother where art thou, how can thou make vows of love
I don’t need a thug blinded by the illusion of choice
You can’t choose to be a victim of circumstance
Brothas bein incarcerated
To the outside world they’re a disgrace
But how can they come up in the world, when doors keep slammin in they face?
But let’s get it together fellas
Cuz God can’t bless on top of mess,
And a closed mouth don’t get fed,
And if the opportunity ain’t there you must create the possibility
Oh how I get sprung when I think of what dreams may come
Dream it, do it, and don’t let anyone steal it
Write the vision and make it plain upon tables
That he may run that read it
For the vision is yet for an appointed time
But at the end it shall speak and not lie
We are the people who could fly
They keep sayin we free
Are we?
Well you may say yes
But how can a man be free when there are people oppressed?
America, the bully of the world, Nas said it best
Political thugs in shark suit persuade us to pull triggers in army boots
My brothas are riskin their lives to fight another man’s war, what for?
No it’s not about political power but empowering ourselves
Democrat Republican, two sides of the same coin
Keeping us divided so they can rule
Blacks Latinos and Asians, Middle Eastern, Afrikan, all one
Have they turned us into savages by their immense hatred?
We continually suffer from our own divisions and dehumanizations,
Belittling each other’s pain,
So everything stays the same,
Take heed: Don’t let the oppressed become oppressors to each other
Cuz we’re in this love together
I said we’re in this love together
Ain’t that a song?
I’ve seen my men of color held down for too long
Pero en la unidad esta la fuerza
And if there is strength in unity then let’s start moving
Stop making excuses
And don’t cry when our people are in trouble if you ain’t doin a thang for the struggle
Too political for you? Then it must be you I’m talking about
Wake up brothas, if you stand for nothing who will stand for you?
But I know what you’re going through Your
Self-hatred and self-ignorance further hindering your self-awareness
Lack of consciousness breeds lack of inspiration, motivation, lack of support
Your resources cut short and you, up against the wall
America laughs waiting for you to fall, but my men stand tall
The proud the few, God blessed you, heaven sent you
And they fear you so they try to oppress you
Make sure you’re doin something worth watchin
Cuz they always busy watching you, tryna be you
They fear your strength, they awe at your amazing talent
They exploit our music, and pervert the meaning
Tryna be you on some du-rag baggy jeans tip keep dreaming
You are now a part of the vicious cycle of Rising Into Multi-Cultural Excellence
Satan get thee hence
We need not your lies and perpetual influence of self-ignorance
My men of color, your intellect, your mindset, your metaphysicalities
That’s what astounds me, that’s what I think is sexy
Don’t let media influence you,
What you got is special
Wise man once said “we aim to break the chains of mental colonialism”
In a spiritual trip back to Afrika, I have freed my soul
Broken the chains of mental slavery, and that worth way more than gold and platinum chains around your neck
Some are so blinded by the image of who they want you to be
Be free
Watch who you look up to, whose songs you repeat
Just cuz it’s hot cuz it got a dope beat
What you say is what you get
So speak the powerful man into existence
Black Brotha
Soul Brotha be persistent
Free your soul
The standards you live up to set the stereotypes of this day
And the only way these words will work is if you
Become the change you want to see, TODAY
